V Litter
7 pups whelped 2/6/06: 2 black & tan males, two sable males, 2 black & tan females, 1 sable female.
Mem'ry unfortunately developed EPI, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, at 2 1/2 years of age, after most of these pups had left for their new homes. EPI is a recessive condition in German Shepherds, and is a condition where for some unknown reason the pancreas discontinues producing the enzymes necessary to digest food. For the rest of his life, Mem'ry will need the enzymes sprinkled on each meal, but he'll be healthy, hearty and happy with that simple remedy. He cannot be bred, since all his progeny could be carriers, so he has been placed in a loving home in New York, where he'll be an only dog and be able to continue doing his favorite sport, agility. His new owner recently lost her dog, who was a close relative to Mem'ry, of cancer at an advanced age, and is thrilled to be able to welcome Mem'ry into her life. It was a hard decision, but I know Mem'ry will be happier there than as one of many here. All the pups in this litter will be sold on spay/neuter contracts since they are possibly carriers of this condition. As far as we can tell from intensive research, the chances are infinitesimal that any of them would develop EPI. They are, of course, fully guaranteed, and if one develops EPI, I will replace it. Mem'ry comes from a long line of service dogs and guide dogs, and it's obvious. We call him "The Nanny" because he "mothers" everything small and fragile. If he is around anything that is young, fragile, scared or hurting, whether it be human or animal, Mem'ry is very concerned and tries to comfort, a quality which I feel is a direct result of his breeding. His grandsire, Degen, was a famous producer of guide dogs and service dogs. Two guide dog schools have his semen frozen to use for years to come, since he was such a good producer. Degen also produced incredibly healthy and physically sound dogs. Those are the reasons I waited a year and a half to finally get a pup from his lines. Mem'ry's mother, Sable, is an accomplished herding dog whose natural instinct of what to do in any herding situation is amazing.
Mem'ry also is very eager to please me and to try to anticipate what he can do for me. He loves to learn and trains easily. He excels in agility, jumping like a deer, and will probably begin competing at trials this spring and summer. He is also going to be a good obedience competition dog, whenever I get around to training him. He's deceptive when tracking, acting very easy-going about following the scent, but he's always right on the track. People fall in love with him when they meet him because he is highly social, very loving, and bursting with personality.
This will be Mem'ry's first litter. He is bred to produce quite well, so I'm excited to see what he produces. Jubilee is a proven producer of mentally intense, extremely athletic, high drive pups. This litter should be full of characters, anyway!

Jubilee has her Companion Dog title and her AKC Novice Agility title and is training for more agility titles plus her tracking titles. She much prefers agility and tracking to obedience, which she finds boring when we try for precision. We may play around some with Rally and see if my being able to talk to her while competing keeps her from getting bored. She is an intense, high-drive female who sings when she's happy, which is most of the time. She has produced some super tracking pups who have mad fantastic Search & Rescue dogs.
Jubilee is the most athletic GSD I've ever known. When she was just a pup she would jump into the back of a 3/4 ton pickup from which I was shoveling wood shavings, trudge to the top of the shavings pile, and get on top of the cab. She will climb, jump, drill through incredible obstacles to retrieve her toys (the favorite of which is the Frisbee). She loves tracking and agility. Her tracking is very intense and only needs proofing to be ready to try for her Tracking Dog title. Once she's done with this litter we'll get back to training and try to finish her agility titles (she'll be 8 in July so is about ready to quit all the jumping), and work on tracking and possibly Rally.
